Helping Moms Make Money Online

Southern Home Business Moms

Written By: shay - Apr• 06•12

I have a group called Southern Home Business Moms. ( http://shbm.webs.com – ignore my pic on there! I have to update it. Ugh.)

It has about 500 members, but it hasn’t been incredibly active lately.

It keeps coming to mind over and over, and when that happens it is generally a sign that I need to give something my attention. Not always, but generally. I think that in this case it is definitely a sign that I need to pay attention to.

So I am going to revitalize the group. I would like to have a new website, perhaps a new forum, a local group, and more. I’m even toying with the idea of having a printed directory and a book focusing on some of the members. Perhaps a Kindle book.

When I get things up and running again, I’ll be sure to post about it.

If you are a Southern home business mom, please feel free to leave a comment and say hi! :D

Girl’s Day Out

Written By: shay - Mar• 03•12

I work most days.

The reason is because I work online, and I also do a lot of other stuff online for recreation. This means that while I am trying to relax, I find myself working a little bit here, a little bit there. It’s amazing for productivity, but it makes it a little difficult to unwind.

So every so often I try to go out and unwind. I get away from the computer and get some down time.

I take my daughter with me, most times. :)

Today we went to Ruby Tuesdays, and had a great meal. The best part? Dessert!

Double Chocolate Cake - AMAZING!

And….

Ice Cream with Strawberry Sauce - YUMMY!

Needless to say….dessert is the perfect ending to a perfect day. :)

Work at Home Moms – I want to interview you!

Written By: shay - Mar• 01•12

I think that a big part of what I enjoy about what I do for a living is that I get to share other people’s stories.

I love being able to talk to other people – moms, dads, kids, etc. I think it makes a big difference when you’re willing to share the stories of others and not just talk about yourself all the time! :D

I would love to share your story.

If you are a work at home mom, I would love to interview you. I would love to share your story on this blog, and possibly in one of my upcoming books.

You don’t have to be making a huge amount of money, or be a polished professional. I would love to get the stories of everyday moms who are juggling the responsibilities of working from home and family time. I’d love to talk to single moms, married moms, moms who have spouses who are serving overseas, moms who have spouses who are retired, and more.

You could have your own business that you started from scratch or you could work as an independent representative for a company like Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, or some other Direct Sales/Party Plan company.

It won’t take very much of your time, and if you would like I can send you a copy of what I’m going to post before it’s posted on my site. If I would like to publish it in an upcoming book, I would ask permission first and have you sign a release form before I did anything – I promise!

This is a great opportunity for other people to see what you do for a living and to get to know you better! (Free advertising – you can’t beat that! :D )

If you would like to be considered for an interview, please contact me at

LShayRockhold (at) live (dot) com and let’s see if you would be a good fit for an interview.

If you would like to nominate someone for an interview, the best thing to do would be to forward a link to this post and have them get in touch with me. :)

10 Reasons Why I Work From Home

Written By: shay - Feb• 29•12

I was sitting at my desk reading over a few articles, thinking about how much I enjoy working from home.

I just wanted to share a few thoughts.

  1. I can work my own schedule – Being able to work my own schedule is a huge plus. You never know when one of the kids is going to get sick or some kind of emergency is going to come up.
  2. I can work from anywhere – as long as I have WiFi connection, I can work wherever I please. If I have to take the kids somewhere or even go out of town, I can still work if I need to or if I want to.
  3. No office politics – it always annoyed me when I had a job and I had to play this stupid office games that everybody plays. It didn’t matter if I was the hardest worker in the office, or if I was the one that worked overtime when nobody else would, or if I was the one that coordinated the most projects. The blonde bimbo that would take long coffee breaks with the boss in his office was the one that would get the promotion. Always.
  4. I am creating an asset – I’m actually building a business that can be willed to my kids after I’m gone. I’m working hard to help their financial future, and I can impact our family for generations to come.
  5. I can change the world – I don’t take that lightly. One person has the ability to change the entire landscape of community, a state, a nation, and the world. Every single one of you can do the same.
  6. I can choose the people that I work with – if I accept a speaking engagement, or if I want to collaborate on a project, or any other endeavor, I can pick and choose what I do.
  7. I can change my paycheck - if something comes up and I need additional money or if I simply have a creative spurt, I can create something like a product or service and I can increase my income. I don’t have to wait for a raise, or for budget approvals, or for the economy to improve.
  8. I can rest when I need to - anyone who knows me knows that I have terrible insomnia. There are nights when I simply cannot sleep. When that happens, eventually my body has to give up and rest. Being able to work from home means that I can rest during the day if I need to.
  9. I can encourage others – most of what my day consists of is simply about teaching people a better way to be with their finances, and also to encourage them. I can do that on the phone, with a card or letter, or any other number of ways. It does me just as much good as it does them.
  10. I am making a difference – this is a little bit different than changing the world. I actually get to work one-on-one with people, talk with them, and help them change their lives. It’s the most amazing feeling in the world.

I will never be able to go back to working for someone else. I simply enjoy the freedom of being my own boss much more than I could ever express.

Plan Ahead for Holidays – Start Funding Your Cookie Jar Now

Written By: shay - Oct• 16•11

It’s October.

More specifically it’s more than halfway through October.

That means that you have about 70 shopping days until Christmas. Not sure what the count is to Hanukkah, but I would imagine it’s about the same amount.

So…..

You need to be planning ahead.

If you are planning to start a business in order to help fund your holidays, you need to get started immediately.

If you already have a business, then you need to be working it so that the holidays don’t sneak up on you. I also like to take some time off around the holidays, so I scheduled my work around that.

It’s always a big joke with my family about how early in the year I start planning for Christmas, but I’m also not one of the ones that are out on Christmas Eve desperately trying to find last-minute gifts for family members.

This is one of the times when your cookie jar money will really come in handy. By putting aside small amounts every week, you’ll be able to build up a nice fund for the holidays or any other occasion.

You can also use this philosophy for Christmas gifts – purchasing one or two gifts a week and putting them aside. You can also put aside a few miscellaneous gifts in case you find out that you have forgotten someone. If you find that you don’t need the gifts for a family member or friend, you can always consider donating the gifts to a worthy cause.

The 12 Days of Christmas

My family is going to start a new tradition this year – we are going to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas. Starting on Christmas day, we will be celebrating 12 days. (Most people think that the 12 days of Christmas end on Christmas Day, but that’s not the case. )

We’ve decided to do this because every year, there seems to be a bit of a letdown on Christmas day. Presents are opened, the excitement of the day has been hyped up so much and then there’s an adrenaline crash.

So this year we’re going to try the 12 days of Christmas and see if it helps to make the holiday spirit linger a little longer.

Plan. Prepare. Relax.

If you do your planning ahead of time – financially as well as when it comes to family activities – you will find the holiday season to be much more relaxed and enjoyable for everyone involved.

September already?!

Written By: shay - Sep• 13•11

Holy cats! Where did the summer go?

Things have been great the past month – except for me being sick for over a week, ugh – and things are progressing business-wise at a fast pace!

You see, I had such a huge response to one of my Hotsheets (you can see them on http://ShaysHotsheets.com )that I’ve decided to expand it and create an LLC around the concept – and, next year, to offer franchises for the business.

This is how things work. One thing leads to another, and that leads to another.

That particular Hotsheet started out as a five dollar a day project ( inspired by Dennis Becker’s book – 5 Bucks a Day), and it turned out to be something that generated over $14,000 in sales. Now it is something that I’m going to be turning into a full-time business.

I will still do the Hotsheets, of course, but I will be focusing more on my offline business and also my coaching – two things that I very much enjoy.

We never know what the future holds. Never in a million years would I have thought that things would have turned out this way.  I’m amazed and thrilled to be at this point.

You see, 90 days ago I sat down with my business mentor and said that a year from that point I wanted to have a six-figure business. I wanted to be doing $10,000 a month in a year.

Now it looks like it’s very possible to accomplish that much sooner – in fact, I can see myself hitting that point by the end of the year.

It’s an exciting time. I see a lot of potential for growth, and I know that there are going to be some challenges along the way, but I’m looking forward to everything.

I am finding that making goals for 30 days, 90 days, and six months really makes a difference in my business. Again, I think that having a business mentor has a lot to do with that. The accountability and the urgent are both huge assets in this process.

I will be chronicling ( is that a word? I think it is) my journey here. in a way, this has become more of a personal blog than a site about making money online – but I really think that it’s important to see what happens behind the scenes when it comes to things like this. I hope that it’s an encouragement to you.

I’ll try to update this in a few days. Until then, take care.

Encouragement

Written By: shay - Aug• 07•11

Working home business can be very frustrating. Not only are you trying to work and make a living at it, but you have to juggle family and work responsibilities and you often suffer from a feeling of isolation because you don’t have interaction with coworkers.

It’s always a good thing to have support and encouragement.

It’s even better when you can have support and encouragement along with helpful advice.

I belong to several forums. Most of them are business related, but not all of them. I also belong to some Skype groups and to some non-business forums.

One of the best sites that I have ever been a part of is Earn 1 K a Day. (Not an affiliate link)

The people that belong to this forum are like family to me. The support and encouragement is amazing. I never would’ve reached my first $1000 day without their help and support and encouragement.

Another great site is 5 Bucks a Day. (Not an affiliate link)

The same person started both sites – Dennis Becker – and he has created two amazing online communities.

There are times when you simply need encouragement and a pat on the back – these two sites are definitely the place to get that.

There are times when you need to have some accountability – these two sites will help with that as well.

There are times you need help with some business ideas – once again, these two sites, highly recommended by me.

I hope these twp resources will be as much of a benefit to you as they have been to me in my journey.

How would this change your life?

Written By: shay - Jul• 27•11

Most families (yes, I’m generalizing, but bear with me) are doing okay. Some are really doing well, some aren’t. Most are in the middle somewhere.

But they aren’t exactly thriving. They’re only a paycheck or two from disaster.

And is where the Cookie Jar Money Philosophy comes in.

Most families don’t need a way to replace a full-time income. Most families simply need a few hundred extra dollars a month that they can tuck away. Some families really don’t even need that much. One or $200 a month would be fantastic.

Some families can have that simply by cutting corners and putting money aside that they save. But other families need a way to make extra money.

And that’s where I come in.

I like helping moms figure out how to make extra money by working at home. I also like doing it in a way that is very inexpensive for them. I don’t believe moms need to invest hundreds of dollars in some kind of a kit so that they can start making money.  I don’t think that businesses that do that are bad, necessarily. I know that I have purchased kits before – such as for a candle company, cosmetics, etc. – and I made money with them.

But for most families that need extra money, they don’t need to be putting money out before they start making money – not on that scale anyway.

The vast majority of business models that I promote require little or no money to start. That is a personal choice.  I believe that if a family has a way of making extra money that doesn’t require a whole lot of money to start, they can always invest more money once they have some income coming in. They can always reinvest their profits in order to scale up their business.

Imagine if you had a way to bring in an extra hundred dollars a week. Nothing spectacular, just $100 a week. We’ll even say that you take two weeks off a year.

That is an extra $5000 a year. Yes, I know you have to pay taxes and that kind of thing. Even with that, let’s say you get to keep half of it.

That would be an extra $2500.

$2500 – for most people that would cover nearly every emergency they could think of ( with the exception of large medical expenses perhaps). It would mean a car repair, or even a new car if they bought one that was used. It would cover co-pays for doctor visits. It would cover medication for a sick child. It would mean an extra month of expenses if the main job were lost so that they could still put food on the table while unemployment kicked in or a new job was found.

In short, it would mean breathing room.

I enjoy helping families do that. I have a new site that is under construction that helps families do that. All of the business plans are available for $5 or less.

That is not a typo.

Five. Dollars. Or. Less.

I’ve been told I should charge more. I know that the information is worth more, but I don’t want to charge more. I like this business model that I want to make sure that it’s affordable for everyone.

I’ll keep everyone updated with posts on this site about the other site.

In the meantime, there are many ways that you can make some extra money if you just look around. Selling things on craigslist, offering writing services or other freelancing, etc. – see a need, and then provide what is needed.

Until next time, take care.

An Incredible Two Weeks

Written By: shay - Jul• 20•11

I can’t believe it’s been over two weeks since I updated this blog!

It has been an incredible two weeks.

If you had told me two weeks ago that I had gotten over $10,000 in sales in just a few days, I wouldn’t have believed you – but I did.

I released one of my HotSheets (what is a HotSheet? It’s a special kind of short report) last week. It really took off, and the sales were just phenomenal.  I’ve gotten many e-mails and messages about how that short report has changed lives.

Sometimes you just need to take a step of faith and do something you may not be entirely comfortable doing – you can change the your life – and the lives of others – in the process.

You can accomplish the impossible

Written By: shay - Jun• 30•11

If anybody remembers the movie Dumbo, you’ll remember the part where the crows talk about how they would use a magic feather to help the young crows have confidence to fly.

Dumbo’s friend, the mouse ( whose name escapes me at the moment), gave Dumbo the magic feather and said it would give him the ability to fly.

Sure enough, Dumbo found that he could fly when he had the magic feather – using his huge ears.

But over the course of the story, he realized that the ability to fly was always in him. Having a magic feather only gave him the courage to try to fly in the first place.

We all need a magic feather.

There are so many things that you could accomplish – if you only had the confidence to try.

There are so many books that are inside of you that would benefit the world – if only you had the courage to write them.

There are so many ideas inside your head that could make money for you and could benefit other people – if only you had the courage to put them into practice.

There are so many words that you could speak in order to inspire other people – if only you had the courage to say them.

There are so many lives that you could change – if only you had the courage to step out of your comfort zone.

You could accomplish more than you could ever imagine if only you had someone whispering in your ear “You can do this.”

It is my sincere hope – and, to be perfectly honest, my goal in life – to be a magic feather for as many people as I possibly can be.

Dream, believe, achieve.

You can do the impossible.

You just have to take the steps to start.
